Helen Sommers
Helen Sommers served as representative to the 36th Legislative District in Seattle from 1973 through 2009.
During her tenure, she served as chair of the Appropriations Committee, with responsibility for the state’s operating budget.
Helen earned her master’s degree in economics from the University of Washington and taught economics in community college. She worked for many years in Caracas, Venezuela.
She had strong experience with budget committees, having chaired the Capital Budget and Revenue committees along with Higher Education and State Government.
She also served on the State Investment Board, the Institute for Public Policy and the Pension Funding Council.
