Janice Niemi
Janice Niemi (Democrat) served the 43rd Legislative district representing Capital Hill, the University of Washingto
and the central area of Seattle.
She served five years in the House before being appointed to the Senate in September, 1987.
She won that seat in the following election and served until 1995.
Janice Niemi was born in Michigan and raised in Spokane. She received a BA from the University of Washington; attended graduate school at the University of Michigan; and
was graduated from the University of Washington with her J.D.
A former Superior Court Judge and Acting General Counsel of the Small Business Administration in Washington, D.C.,
Niemi was a founder of the Washington Women Lawyer’s Association.
