Betti L. Sheldon (Democrat) represented the 23rd Legislative District comprised of the East Bremerton, Silverdale, North Kitsap and Bainbridge Island areas of Kitsap County. She served in the Senate 1993-2005.

She served on the boards of directors of: Small Business Improvement Council; Comm. on Student Learning's K-12 Accountability Task Force; National Assn. of Admin. Rules Review; YMCA Youth and Government State Board; Governor's Regulatory Reform Task Force; Jt. Admin. Rules Review Committee; Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Kitsap County; Kitsap County Economic Development Council; East Bremerton Rotary; Puget Sound Naval Bases Association; West Sound Arts Council; Bremerton Olympic Peninsula Council Navy League; Vice President, Washington Chamber of Commerce Executives; Ferry Advisory Committee, chair; Washington Dev. Finance Authority; Keyport Naval Undersea Museum Foundation trustee.

She received the "Housing Hero" Award, Washington Low-Income Housing Congress, November, 2000; Olympic College Hall of Fame Award, 2000; was named Senate "Rising Star" by WA Law and Politics, March, 2000; Strong Kids, Strong Families, Strong Communities Award by YMCA of WA, 1999; Democratic Woman of the Year by WA State Federation of Democratic Women's Clubs, 1997; Woman of Achievement Award from YWCA of Kitsap County, 1993.

She had five children.
