Mildred E. Henry

Mildred E. Henry
Mildred E. Henry (Democrat) was Appointed [to the 16th District] in 1957, and then represented [the 17th District, 1959-1965] comprising Skamania, Klickitat and part of Clark County in the House of Representatives. Representative Henry served for ten years.

A native of Washington, Henry was born and raised in Klickitat. She received a business college education on a grant from General Electric. Henry ... worked as Director of the Seattle Women's Rights office, as Human Services Program Director, and as Public Relations Director for the Job Corps Center for Women [after] her service in the Legislature.

Henry was married to Senator Al Henry, and was an avid participant in Democratic Party causes. Soon after her marriage she was asked by the party to run for a vacant House seat. Though her husband "forbade" her from seeking the appointment, she thought it was a good idea and pursued it. "Our voting records were very dissimilar," Henry recalls.
